The camp was settling down several hours later when she entered the shared tent and opened her largest suitcase. She slid out a bunch of her clothes and opened the secret compartment she’d added to protect her most precious possessions. She touched her money, making sure it was all there with a quick flick of her nail. Then she went to the bottom of the pile and carefully, with delicate fingers, slipped out the old, grainy black-and-white photo from the very bottom.

She’d been too distracted earlier to show Morgan. He drove her persistently over the edge, easily. He had a right to know how much she’d discovered about herself. Brooke was a remarkable woman, one of the truest friends N’Réa had ever found, and with her help they’d opened up N’Réa to find her inner capacity. It had frightened her at first, a lot, in all honesty. N’Réa had never known what she’d been carrying inside for so long. There was no way to tell if what they’d discovered over the last few days was everything, either. Brooke had mentioned the same thoughts absently after their last session to delve into N’Réa’s mind.

Something was happening between Morgan and herself. He had his secrets and now, more than ever, so did she. He deserved to know everything. She refused to keep herself apart any longer. For the first time in her life she wanted to share all of herself with a man, not just her body.

Brooke knew, but out of the entire world, she was one woman no one would cross and N’Réa respected her and her ability to keep her secrets close. Morgan was becoming something more to her. She couldn’t argue the truth any longer.

She couldn’t deny the way Morgan made her ache, the raging burn he created with a touch, a word. The way he left her light-headed and more after one of his kisses. She sensed the amount of control he used whenever she touched him. She knew it was partially the awakened sense of her own ability, but there had to be some correlation to the bond he had mentioned. She had called his name, and he had answered. She’d never reached out before. She’d never had anyone hear her.

There was something going on here. Definitely. And he had a right to know everything. She heard a step outside. The tent flap moved behind her. “Morgan,” she began, expecting him.

“Sorry, not Morgan.”

Her head snapped around, and she found herself face-to-face with the wrong end of a gun.
